Jag kommer sakna honom

Jag kommer sakna Tony Blair. Han är en lysande statsman och en lysande talare. Få tal är riktigt bra när man läser dom, men Blairs avskedstal på Labours stämma är riktigt bra även i text. Humor är ett av hans kännetecken från hans många tal, och detta är inget undantag:

"I know I look a lot older.
That's what being leader of the Labour Party does to you.
Actually, looking round some of you look a lot older.
That's what having me as leader of the Labour Party does to you."

Han berättar om framgångar och om framtiden. Om alliansen med USA och kriget mot terrorismen, om New Labour nu och då och om Tories nye ledare David Cameron:

"He wants tax cuts and more spending, with the same money.

He wants a Bill of Rights for Britain drafted by a Committee of Lawyers. Have you ever tried drafting anything with a Committee of Lawyers?"

Roligt och träffsäkert, och detta fångar vad Blair också uppnådde:

"They say I hate the Party, and its traditions.
I don't.
I love this Party.
There's only one tradition I hated: losing."

"So keep on winning."

"I don't want to be the Labour Leader who won 3 successive elections. I want to be the first Labour Leader to win 3 successive elections."

"Next year I won't be making this speech.
But, in the years to come, wherever I am, whatever I do. I'm with you. Wishing you well. Wanting you to win. You're the future now. Make the most of it."

I applåderna efter talet undrar jag om en del inte undrade vad de har ställt till med. Ska den här killen ersättas av Gordon Brown. Hur fräscht känns det?
